Virtual Village Update

Dear all,

We held our first exploratory meeting last evening and all seemed delighted with the possibility of creating a Virtual Village here in Redwood Shores surrounds. As expected, we all were looking to stay in the Shores if at all possible. The idea of being part of a dedicated community to provide engagement with like-minded people, interesting events, and exchange of services if and when needed, interested all participants. One member has extensive background with service providers in this area. Most importantly, it was clear after being together that each of us are responsible, pro-active, positive people. We really enjoyed the time together.

Our agenda included an overview of Virtual Villages in the US by Nancy Glaser, personal introductions covering backgrounds and what excites us about a VV, then brainstorming about how to get started. The next meeting will include what each participant hopes to give and get from the VV and details about organizing the effort. Our needs and desires may vary from others around the country, so it’s good to take our own personal inventories first, then check out the others to see what else may be added – or perhaps may not be relevant for us. I really look forward to this process with you over the next few weeks and months.

Some of you responded positively to the Pilot note sent out this month, but weren’t here last evening. The E list is Bccd today and includes you. Please let me know if you wish to remain on the list and come to the next meeting. We hope you will want to be on the ground floor of this venture!

Several of us have a window between May 6 and 15th. We would like to schedule the second meeting then. Please get in touch 1) if you are free during this time for a pm meeting, if so which dates; and if you wish to be kept on the list — and if there are others that you feel would like to be contacted and put on the list.

Thanks so much, we look forward to hearing from you!

— Sharon,

Ps: Nancy Glaser explained to the group last evening that she is leaving the Shores for an assignment with Peace Corps next week, but wants to stay involved at distance — and of course wants to return to a fully-alive and successful Virtual Village in RWS in three years!
