101 Express Lanes Project Update

Caltrans is constructing express lanes on U.S. 101 from the Santa Clara/San Mateo County line to I-380 in South San Francisco. Construction is expected to be completed in 2022.
Construction Update – Week of April 26
Construction activities on U.S. 101 will include; continued work on the sound walls on Bayshore Boulevard in San Mateo (both from Newbridge Avenue to just past Dakota Avenue and from Dore Avenue to East Poplar Avenue), removing guard rails, installing temporary lighting, traffic signals on ramps, temporary detour signs, temporary traffic detectors, electrical service work, drainage systems, a new sewer system, and other related construction activities. Most of the work will occur on the freeway lanes, shoulders, and ramps, while the sound wall and sewer work will occur on city streets adjacent to U.S. 101.
Freeway Lane Closures: Nightly freeway lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound U.S. 101 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights. Due to low traffic volumes, project related traffic delays are anticipated to be minimal. Caltrans will continue to monitor traffic delays and adjust as necessary.
Freeway Ramp Closures: Temporary ramp closures will occur during the night in/near Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame, Millbrae, San Bruno, and South San Francisco, and during the day in San Mateo. Ramp closures could occur on both the northbound and southbound directions of the freeway. However, consecutive interchanges for northbound and southbound ramps will not be closed at the same time.
Nighttime ramp closures:
  • Will be displayed at changeable message signs within the construction zone
  • will last three to ten hours
  • will begin after 7:00 p.m. and reopen by 6:00 a.m.
  • will have detour signs posted
Short-term nighttime ramp closures are possible this week (Sunday though Thursday night) at the following locations near Redwood City:

  • Northbound/Southbound Whipple Avenue Off Ramp
  • Northbound Holly Street Off Ramp

Redwood Shores Historic Walk

Explore your neighborhood and learn about the history of our community with the Redwood Shores Historic Walk!

To help you learn more about Redwood Shores’ past and present, the Redwood Shores Community Association created a Historic Walk that takes you to various scenic and historic spots in the neighborhood. This two-mile walk is accessible by foot or bicycle (or car, if you would just need to get out for a quick cruise.)

Redwood Shores Historic Walk

You can log into the Redwood Shores Historic Walk link for Google Maps on your phone and take the tour with your mobile device. This digital, guided map will take you through each of the nine spots marked as relevant to the history of the Shores. At each point, you will find a short history lesson as well as archival photos which help tell of how Redwood Shores developed. There are also a few “Bonus Views” of spots to explore if you’re feeling like stretching your legs even further.

View the Redwood Shores Historic Walk in a larger map

On select weekends of the year, you can also look for signboards marking these points of interest for Redwood Shores. Nine signboards in total mark the various points on Bridge Parkway, Marine Parkway, Marlin Park, Davit Lane, and Shell Parkway.

Printed copies of the Redwood Shores Historic Walk are often available at the Redwood Shores Branch Library.

The Redwood Shores Historic Walk was originally created for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the establishment of Redwood Shores in 2010 … which means, Redwood Shores is now over 50 years years old! Come review the history of Redwood Shores dating back five decades.

Since 1970 RSCA has been THE advocate on issues that impact the quality of life in Redwood Shores. As we begin our fifth decade, RSCA continues its efforts to keep the Shores a great place to live and work.

Redwood City Economic Development Newsletter – April 10th Update

The following is a message from the Economic Development Manager of Redwood City.

Greetings Redwood City Business Owner,

I want to begin by thanking you; this is truly an unprecedented time and although there is much uncertainty, your collaboration and partnership has continued. Please know that as a City, we are here to help navigate through this situation together.

As your economic development manager, I am striving to support you – our local business community – with providing information and sharing programs to help provide relief. We know that the success of small businesses is important to the economy and contributes to the economic vitality of the Redwood City community. Small businesses create jobs, foster innovation and provide revenue to fund City services, provide entrepreneurial opportunities for people including women and minorities, and provide essential goods and services.

We also know that the March 17, 2020 County of San Mateo order to shelter-in-place greatly reduced businesses’ ability to maintain regular operations, thus impacting your revenue and employees. Businesses have had to close or have stayed open with reduced staff and customer access. The cumulative effect of the loss of business revenue and staff has yet to be quantified because of the need for Redwood City businesses to make changes quickly and without planning.

Over the last few weeks, I have consulted with over 200 Redwood City businesses seeking guidance and/or assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please know that we hear you. And, we will continue to be here as a resource for you.

Be sure to visit the City’s website and Business Resources page, as information will continue to be updated.

If you need additional information or assistance please call me at (650) 780-7204 or email me at .
