Blowing away the silence of mid-week Peninsula entertainment options, The Hotel Sofitel is now the only place for Jazz on Wednesdays, hosting a quartet of world-class performers led by saxophonist Michael O’Neill. Shows, featuring keyboard, bass, sax and vocalist, are no cover in the hotel’s large, luxurious lounge, 6-10pm.
Upcoming Wednesday evening gigs feature the following singers:
- April 4, Branice McKenzie, 10 years with Harry Belafonte)
- April 11, Grammy award-winning singer Tony Lindsay
- April 18, The lovely and incredibly versatile Jackie Ryan
- April 25, Kenny Washington, among today’s top jazz male vocalists
Accompanying on bass is Ron Belcher, who’s played with Branford Marsalis, Regina Carter, Rodney Franklin, John Handy, and Pete Escovedo and many others.
Pianist Peter Horvath, has performed, toured, and recorded with Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Lalah Hathaway, Keith Washington, Rosie Gaines, Ray Obiedo, Kenneth Nash and the Oakland Symphony.
