Redwood Shores Levee Cleanup 2019

At the end of each August, your Redwood Shores Community Association has sponsored our Annual Levee Cleanup. To benefit the environment, the community bonds together to help beautify the nearly seven miles (yes, 7 miles!) of levee surrounding the Shores. And we need all the help we can get to cover those seven miles.

Date: Saturday, August 24
Time: 8:00 am until noon (lunch at 11:30)
Place: Mariner Park, Redwood Shores, CA 94065
Starters: Coffee, juice and bagels served at 8:00 am
Lunch: Meals for all hands at 11:30am
Crews: Qualifies as 4-hours of Community Service

The Shores Levee Cleanup is a fun community event. Residents and admirers of our beautiful Shores are all invited to join us in this very worthy annual event to help keep this neighborhood and wetland area clean. Volunteers will be assembled into teams and assigned cleanup areas.  Kids and parents, adults and seniors are all welcome and encouraged to get involved.  Family work groups handle their areas at their own pace; all help to keep these bountiful nature trails debris-free.

This is a great opportunity for residents (and their friends) to enjoy a beautiful summer morning while experiencing a variety of birds and other wildlife. Volunteer and enjoy the splendor of our seven miles of shoreline, including incredible views of the bay.

We hope you will join us again this year for this worthy cause and opportunity to give back to your community. Please wear good walking shoes and consider bringing gloves; all pickup tools and trash bags will be provided.  Take pride in enhancing this important Redwood City resource, and join us Saturday, August 25, starting at 8am.

Recology Systems Inc. provides the trash collection containers, and their assistance is gratefully acknowledged. Each year large amounts of trash are picked from the Redwood Shores Levee environment by our volunteers and removed by Recology Systems free of charge.  Every piece of trash that is eliminated is important!

For more information about this event, please contact Nina Boire at  .

Eggstravaganza 2019!

It’s time for the RSCA’s annual Eggstravaganza, held every year at Marlin Park in the center of Redwood Shores. Bring all your children and a basket for goodies to the park for the big Egg Hunt, where toddlers and young kids can seek out goodies hidden in the grass and playground. Also, the Easter Bunny will be there to lead off the Egg Hunt and later to pose for pictures with the boys and girls, so be sure to take along a camera as well!

The festivities begin at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 13th at Marlin Park here in Redwood Shores.

Be sure to arrive early so that your child can line up in the right age category — the eggs disappear quickly, and the whistle begins exactly at 2:00, so be on time! (Please limit your children to 6 eggs each so that everyone can share.)

The Easter Bunny, together with helpers from Troop 27

The Eggstravaganza is run by RSCA, and is a great place to sign up with our organization if you have not yet had a chance to do so. Please join in in making great events like this possible in Redwood Shores!

Light Up the Shores 2018

Dress up your home and yard with lights, Santa, reindeer, snowmen and win prizes! Winning homes will be featured in The PILOT and on the web. If you would like to submit your holiday decorations for consideration and publication in The PILOT, we are asking that you take a photo of your home, apartment, condominium or townhome, and submit it to our Board of Directors for their official “judging” process. Of course, it’s best that this be a “nighttime” photo so we can see how brilliantly the lights and decorations shine in the darkness.

Submission Deadline:
December 12

Each photo should be emailed to “” with the resident’s name and street address, including apartment or unit number if applicable.

(Please note that prizes will only be awarded to those who are RSCA members in 2018 or 2019.)

Your photos must be submitted no later than the end of the day Wednesday, December 12th, as our elves will be judging all applicants the day afterwards. Sorry, no late applicants can be considered, as this is a lengthy process!

Santa Comes to the Shores

Santa will be in Redwood Shores to greet everyone on December 9th from 1-3PM, so come out with your family to the Redwood Shores Library and meet Santa!

Bring your cameras to capture magical moments of your children on Santa’s lap while sharing their requests. Mingle with your neighbors, hum along to the Christmas Carols played on the piano, and enjoy a crafts project with the Library staff while waiting your turn to see Santa.

Sunday, December 9, 1:00-3:00pm

at the Redwood Shores Library

Don’t be late! The line to see Santa can be long, and Santa is a very busy man this time of year! (Families will be given a number based on arrival for their place in line, and we will do our best to get everybody through to Santa but there may have to be a cut-off point where we cannot give out any more numbers to see Santa before the event closes; you are still welcome to enjoy the arts in the meantime.)

November is Disaster Preparedness Month

In addition to being the advocate for issues affecting Shores residents and businesses, RSCA is dedicated to helping everyone stay safe and prepared for possible disasters or emergencies.

There are some safety issues unique to the Shores and residents should be aware and plan ahead to stay safe. The November edition of The PILOT includes some helpful tips. For many years, RSCA has provided each household with a RED/GREEN Disaster Signal Card designed to help emergency responders quickly assess who needs immediate help and who is OK. Again this year, it is printed on the back cover and inside back cover of this PILOT.

Keep this card where you can locate it quickly!

Also keep tape nearby so that you can quickly put it where it can be seen clearly from the street. This may be in a front window or on your front or garage door depending on the layout of your particular neighborhood. Especially if you need assistance, this card will help you get the quickest response. The card should not be displayed year-round.

“Show Your Cards” Drill on November 17th!

On Saturday, November 17th local CERT members will gather with RCFD Emergency Preparedness Outreach Coordinator, Christy Adonis to conduct a “windshield survey” looking for the GREEN/OK cards displayed where they can be seen from the street. “Show Your Cards” on November 17th to show your awareness of Shores issues and that you are reading The PILOT, and show support for the CERT program that is in transition from Redwood City and San Carlos to San Mateo County.

With changes in city leadership and uncertainty about further public safety cut-backs, it is more important than ever for Shores residents to know how to prepare their homes and families for disaster. Suggestions and checklists are included in the November edition of The PILOT to help you prepare for a range of situations. Please take the time to read, plan and make sure that your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues are safe and prepared.
