(The following is a message from the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District.)
Hello BRSSD Community,
This message will address an extension to the dismissal of students until May 1 and a clarification regarding my previous message on teacher-student videoconferencing.
Dismissal of Students Extended to May 1
Earlier today, we received this press release from the San Mateo County Office of Education. The dismissal of students from public schools throughout the Bay Area has been extended until May 1, 2020.
This makes BRSSD’s planning for the return from Spring Break on April 6 all the more important. Additionally, we are developing optional resources for families to help engage students academically over the break, given the current Shelter in Place order for San Mateo County. We will share more information at the end of the week.
Clarification Regarding this Morning’s Message
This morning, I sent you a message stating that a class’s morning meeting was recorded and put on the local news and social media. It was actually a still photograph of a student participating in a morning meeting via videoconference, with other classroom participants on the computer screen. I apologize for giving the misimpression that the meeting/lesson was video recorded when it was not. Nevertheless, this incident raises the importance of student and staff privacy, and we are committed to putting safeguards in place before resuming videoconferencing on April 6.
Thanks for your support and patience on both of these topics. We will continue to work on providing the best educational program possible for your student and improving week to week.
The City of Redwood City and the Redwood Shores Community Association have been in talks over concerns for our senior citizens who are particularly vulnerable in this Shelter in Place period.
The Redwood City Veterans Memorial Senior Center will be offering to-go lunches from 11AM to 1PM, Monday through Friday, for those aged 60 and over. Lunches can be picked up at a curbside spot at the Redwood City Veterans Memorial Senior Center (1455 Madison Avenue in Redwood City) or a delivery can be arranged.
Please call 650-780-7259 for more information or to enroll in lunch service. You must call by 9PM the previous day in order to enroll that day, and you must call back to enroll every day you need service.
More details about the program are available on the phone line’s recorded message, which will then lead to an answering machine. Please leave the following information on the answering machine recording:

We are living through a time in history that will be taught to kids for years to come. As we navigate day by day, we hope you find comfort that we are all in this together. We can utilize this time of sheltering in place to reflect and support those who need it most.
To help support the hard-working people in the area, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has declared San Mateo County eligible for Disaster Loan Assistance to help alleviate economic injury caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Continue reading →

To our customers,
On behalf of Raley’s, I want to express our deepest sympathy for those afflicted by the coronavirus.
For 85 years, Raley’s has been there for the communities we serve, in good times and bad. I assure you that you can count on us during this time of crisis.
I believe the most important thing that all of us can do is to trust those who are leading us through this crisis and to remain calm and civic minded. Please know, the food system in the United States is the most sophisticated and robust in the world and amid “rational” demand it will keep up. If we all normalize our buying behavior and resist the unnecessary need to stockpile, everyone can have what they need.
So that you have confidence, here are just some of the things Raley’s has implemented or that will be put in motion. Many of these steps were implemented weeks ago. Continue reading →

To our Community,
The entire Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Team would like to express how our hearts and thoughts are with each of you as the situation with coronavirus (COVID-19) escalates. We are diligently working to slow the spread of the virus in our community by following the continued guidance of all county and state officials as this fast-moving pandemic unfolds worldwide. We are doing our best to make the necessary changes to our operations, while being conscious of our community needs as it affects our most vulnerable.

We will continually reassess the extension of closures and provide updated information. Our primary focus will be supporting essential services through senior food distributions, safety net services, homeless support services, and human service information and referral services.
We understand that these closures and cancellations create a hardship, and we thank you for your understanding through this unprecedented time.
