Join us for a Redistricting Community Workshop on September 1st
On Wednesday, September 1, Redwood City’s Advisory Redistricting Committee (ARC) will hold the next Redistricting Community Workshop at 6 pm via Zoom. While the workshop will be hosted in current City Council District 1 (Redwood Shores), all members of our community are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please see and share the flyer far and wide – at your book club, service club, place of worship, favorite park (dog parks included!) and with neighbors, friends, family, etc.
Zoom Meeting ID 987 0748 0568 — By Phone 1-669-900-6833
A brief background on district elections will be shared, as well as why the current seven City Council district map needs to be redrawn, and how to get involved with making your voice heard throughout the process. Just like a puzzle it takes all pieces to complete, the committee needs to hear from all voices in our community to ensure that our future City Council districts best represent all residents.
The workshop will begin with a presentation from the City’s redistricting consultant followed by a demonstration of the online mapping tool. Following the presentation, will be an opportunity for questions and we will also ask for community of interest feedback from meeting participants.
What is a Community of Interest?
A Community of Interest is a group of people that share common cultural, demographic, economic, ethnic, geographic, or social interests. Keeping Communities of Interest together is a high-ranking criterion in the redistricting process. Some examples of Communities of Interest include:
- Senior citizens
- LGBTQ+
- Residents who share a common language
- Members of Neighborhood Associations
- People associated with neighborhood schools
- College students living near campus
- People who live downtown or in a neighborhood
- People that use the same transportation systems
- Dog park community
