A special program for families with infants and young toddlers, sponsored by the Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services, is being expanded to 2 sessions. Beginning on Tuesday, September 27th DISCOVER YOUR BABY Parent-Infant Guidance Classes will have morning and afternoon classes, in 5-week sessions, at the Redwood Shores Public Library.
DISCOVER YOUR BABY provides focused attention to both parent and child in a safe and challenging play setting. Classes are held in a relaxed and peaceful space that encourages babies and young toddlers to become attentive, curious and secure. Parents are the natural experts, learning from their own child, other parents and babies and from the parent educator. Weekly 1.5 hour classes are limited to 6 families.
Enjoy your child’s unfolding developmental process. Become a mindful, sensitive observer as you focus on what your child can do and learn to read your baby’s cues. Balance baby’s needs with your own as you tune in to your unique child and family circumstance and become more confident in your parenting choices. Learn how to create an optimum home environment for your child’s growth without expensive toys or gimmicks.
The morning class (10:30 am to 12 noon) is for older babies (8 to 16 months); the afternoon class (1:30 to 3 pm) is for younger babies (newborn to 10 months). Moms and Dads are welcome. Grandparents may join us after the first class.
Parent educator Lee Fernandez is inspired by the work of renowned Infant Specialist Magda Gerber and Physician-Educator Maria Montessori. Lee has over 40 years of experience as a parent educator, administrator of child care programs, trainer of child care professionals and author. Her M.A. in Child Development is from Pacific Oaks College, Pasadena, CA; she is a RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) Alliance Associate and a certified Montessori teacher.
